London Blackmarket return from the darkest corners of Essex with The Hardest Stone To Throw, their second release for Fiction Records. Recorded at Toerag studio with Liam Watson (White Stripes, Holly Golightly, Thee Headcoatees) the single will be released on 7" and as a digital download on 7th December.

In February the four-piece released their debut single Checkmate, "A mile-a-minute, surly rush of Arctics bassline and Bloc guitars" said NME as they made it a Track Of The Week. "Checkmate rips through your ears with incessant urgency like the first time you heard "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" added The Fly. Artrocker also made it Single of The Week, MTV2 played the video, Xfm playlisted it, Radio 1 got on board and the myspace plays started racking up.

So what happened? Single two would have followed hot on its heels, but in the Spring gravel-throated singer and peoples' poet Nicholas Long suffered a serious "late night fall", fracturing a vertebrae in his lower back - an injury which could have left him unable to walk. Luckily, after months recuperating he's now back on his feet with renewed vigour and vitriol. Check out the parliament baiting demo Beg, Steal, Borrow at

The Hardest Stone To Throw barrels from the speakers with the balls of Oasis (RIP), the psychedelia of early The Verve, and the urgency of early Springsteen & The E Street Band. As with Checkmate, it comes with two B-sides as good as the A - Linas Store with it's riotous chorus (mysteriously named after an Italian delicatessen in Soho) and the frenzied Last Chance Dance.
