This April sees The Shakes take a sideways look at the murky world of materialism, greed and megalomania with their lively new single I Want A Better Life.

I Want A Better Life is the story of a man who starts off wanting superficial pointless things and ends up wanting to rule the world. It's a moodier theme this time round, but the band's trademark pop sensibilities, foot-stomping beats and catchy choruses remain.

The track was recorded in London with up-coming producer James Lewis (The On Offs, Dead 60's and Artic Monkeys). B-Side Remember This - a rough, rattly production with a seedy subject – was a one-take hit in the same session.

I Want A Better Life has already hit number 1 in the Worldwide Podcast Music Charts, after being featured in over 100 DJ podcasts since the start of 2007. This follows the success of last single Liberty Jones, which Dermot O'Leary made his "one to go buy Monday", whilst XFMs Evening Sessions inbox crashed under sheer weight of fan requests. BBC 6Music, Indie 103.1 in LA and over 75 UK regional radio stations also lent their support.

The Shakes have also had international success with their own podcast. Their 20-minute Shakecasts are filled with everything from live tracks and interviews to behind-the-scenes recordings. The latest show even features relationship advice from their drummer. Entertaining, eclectic and now on Episode 5, the show has over 10,000 listeners from the USA, Japan, France, UK, Romania, Germany, Holland & Australia.

Then there's the TheShakesTube (the band's YouTube community) where they've put up all their video footage. With vidcasts, tour diaries, gig movies, a rooftop acoustic session and fans' clips from gigs, there's almost enough to make a feature length film.
