Byron Major isn't just making music – he's shaping a sound that bridges continents and generations. With roots in South Africa and training at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, Byron has carved out a space where soul, R&B, Motown grooves, and South African rhythms collide.
His journey has already been extraordinary – from reaching the Top 24 on Idols SA at just 17, to performing his original song "South Africa" at Nelson Mandela's Boston birthday celebration. Along the way, he's shared the stage with Grammy Award-winner Paula Cole, and his music has been playlisted on stations across the UK, Europe, USA, and Australia.
Chart success has followed: "Delicious" lit up South African college radio, "Midnight Daydream" and "Color My World" climbed the UK Music Week Charts, and "Rockstar" reached Number 1 on BBC Radio One's Essential Mix Kings of Spin DJ Chart.
Byron's sound draws on Stevie Wonder's soul, Prince's edge, and John Lennon's storytelling, yet he refuses to be boxed in. "Genres in music," he says, "are like racism in society – not applicable."
Recent highlights include his single "4EVERMORE" charting in the UK and Chicago, and a collaboration with platinum-selling producers Andy Whitmore & Omnivi3e (whose credits include Elton John and Diana Ross).
Now, Byron returns with "Happy Birthday" – a soulful ballad of friendship turning into love, layered with jazzy piano, strings, and heartfelt vocals. It's proof that Byron Major continues to reinvent himself while staying true to his essence: authentic, boundary-breaking music that connects.
