P. Emerson Williams' score for Robert Wiene's follow-up to his German Expressionist masterpiece The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari shows Williams' love of silent cinema and for wielding ambient and classical textures into strange and flowing shapes. The score was created for a 44 minute fragment of what was a two hour film. Williams found the bewildering ambiguity of the plot to be an inspiration for impressionistic experiments.
