Artio is a haunting and transcendent original track from Artio, a mythic, immersive experience reimagining the Arthurian legend through eco-feminist storytelling. The piece combines layered harmonies, folk textures, and atmospheric production to evoke themes of transformation, rewilding, and divine feminine power.
The lead vocal is delivered in both Cymraeg and English by Welsh singer Alys Williams, whose soulful voice, shaped by folk and jazz influences, brings improvisational nuance and mythic weight to the role of Artio, the bear goddess.
Backing vocals are performed by acclaimed singer Steve Balsamo, whose genre-spanning career has seen him front West End musicals, co-found country rock band The Storys, and collaborate with artists from Meatloaf to Jon Lord. His harmonies deepen the emotional landscape of the track with rich, cinematic warmth.
All instruments and music production are by Matt Eaton, a prolific composer and producer known for blending sound design with storytelling. His sonic world on Artio weaves organic instrumentation, ambient textures, and subtle electronic elements to create a score that responds dynamically to the visual experience.
Ashley McAvoy, who also performs acoustic guitar on the track, is the project's creator and artistic lead. An artist working across music, mythology, and immersive experience, Ashley channels ancient narratives into new forms. His vision for Artio brings together sonic experimentation and ecological myth to invite listeners into a co-created story of rebalance and renewal.
Two versions of Artio have been released, one in English and one in Cymraeg, reflecting the project's commitment to bilingual storytelling and the cultural landscapes that shaped its mythic world.
Recorded in Cardiff and Llanelli in Wales, Artio is both a song and a spell. A call to remember the wild wisdom we carry.
