Containing nine remarkable musical odysseys based around the mesmeric lyrical talents of Al Joshua, ‘I Am Alive and You Are Dead’ is a work of spellbinding brilliance. With the use of an array of instruments, there are many points to marvel at. Whether it be a lyric, a tempo change, a string score or a subtle backing vocal, each track holds moments that will enchant and surprise the listener in equal measure.

Throughout the album there are hints of The Velvet Underground, Nick Cave, Bob Dylan, William Burroughs and Steve Reich – all of whom the band cite as influences – but the songs are so perfectly crafted, these influences so well blended and buried and the result executed with such wonder, it is difficult to label them with any one tag. Each listener will draw their own conclusions.
