Dawn Kinnard will soon be a name on everyone’s lips and she is set to emerge as one of the great new talents of 2008. January sees the release of her stunning debut single, a limited 7” which perfectly showcases just how gifted she is. It was produced by Martin Terefe (Martha Wainwright/KT Tunstall/James Morrison) and so impressed was he with Kinnard that she became the first signing to his fledgling label, Kensaltown Recordings. The release also gives us a taster of her astonishing debut album “The Courtesy Fall” which follows in March.

This opener, ‘Devil’s Flame’ is edgy, confrontational, defiant and insightful. ‘Fortuneteller’ is the flip side of the coin - a dreamy, late night, sensuous love song, enveloped in Kinnard’s smoke and honey vocals, and which sees her channelling the troubled blues singers that so inspired her. Both are equally mesmerizing.
