2. The Temptress (Extended Mix)
Sean Cook is back. After 8 years on bass with Spiritualized & 3 years as lead singer with Lupine Howl, Cook now emerges as the lead singer of The Flies. Working with the Bristol based production team ‘The Insects’, they have amassed a body of work that has drawn critical acclaim from many quarters along with an online following across Europe & America.
The musical heritage is impeccable as the three band members have worked with the likes of Massive Attack, Tricky, Goldfrapp , The Jesus & Mary Chain, Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) and various members of Portishead - to name a few. More recently, The Insects produced Alison Moyet’s ‘Hometime’ album and composed the soundtrack to the cult horror flick ‘Creep’. Other soundtracks by The Insects include “Love & Death on Long Island” (John Hurt/Jason Priestley) “XX XY” (Mark Ruffalo) and “Owning Mahowny” (Phillip Seymour Hoffman)
The Flies began loosely in 2004 when The Insects invited Sean to sing on a track, around the time Lupine howl was winding down. That track became ‘Lord of the Flies’. This collaboration continued informally until it was evident that the music was taking on its own spirit and sonic quality ,always being bound together by Cook’s unique and haunting vocals. It wasn’t until April 2005 that the project was named and a focus put on completing a solid body of work – the eponymous titled and as yet unreleased album ‘The Flies’. Musically, the album has the feel of a David Lynch movie for the ears with influences ranging from Roy Orbison & The Doors to Kraftwerk.
The Flies return with their first release of 2006. ‘The Temptress’ is taken from the forthcoming eponymous titled album and is the second official single release from the band following ‘Walking On The Sand’ in September 2005.
